VIAGENS: BRASIL
TRAVELS: BRAZIL
This was my first trip outside of Portugal. I had never photographed other species, nor experienced other realities. Photographing in the Atlantic Forest was an encounter with nature in its wildest state. The animals were literally on my doorstep.
This project focused on learning, new species, new techniques, new concepts. It was also where I returned to filmmaking, something I had started in 2011, but which had been put on hold for many years. Filming the animals in this forest was magical and unforgettable; I had the opportunity to record countless species and captured some rare moments. However, photographing in these contexts forced me to rethink framing, distances, and narratives, since the forest was extremely dark and the trees were almost 30 meters tall.
Above all, I try to show the rich biodiversity that this area possesses and that is at risk of disappearing with urban expansion. Currently, less than 15% of the original forest remains, and in the coming years it will continue to diminish until it disappears.
