TRAILER

IN THE SILENT HEART OF THE ALENTEJO REGION, WHERE WATER IS LIFE AND EVERY REFLECTION TELLS A STORY, A FAMILY OF OTTERS EMERGES ON THE TRANQUIL SURFACE OF A SMALL POND. BETWEEN FURTIVE DIVES AND ATTENTIVE GAZES, A RARELY OBSERVED WORLD IS REVEALED: THE INTIMATE DAILY LIFE OF ONE OF THE MOST ELUSIVE MAMMALS IN PORTUGUESE FAUNA, IN A TERRITORY WHERE SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON BALANCE, DISCRETION, AND ADAPTATION.

This documentary closely follows the life of a family of European otters (Lutra lutra), filmed over several weeks in an isolated lagoon in the Alentejo region of Portugal. More than just a body of water, this habitat functions as a true biodiversity refuge, bringing together species that share the same space and the same challenges. Throughout the film, the presence of the otters intersects with aquatic birds, invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles, composing a faithful portrait of the ecological complexity of these small aquatic systems.

With an intimate and observational approach, the documentary reveals natural behaviors, family interactions, and learning moments of the pups, highlighting the importance of these temporary or permanent lagoons for the conservation of wildlife in southern Portugal. In an Alentejo marked by climatic extremes and water scarcity, this story is also a testament to the resilience of nature and the urgency of protecting the habitats that support emblematic species and the entire ecosystem that depends on them.
