WILDLIFE OF PORTUGAL

Fauna. Biodiversity.

From an early age I knew that I liked studying animals, knowing their behaviors and above all knowing how to identify them all. When I finished my Masters in Conservation Biology, I took part in a project for the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation that culminated in the launch of the Gulbenkian Bird Guide (see books). And I immediately thought, what if I launched one for the Instituto Superior de Agronomia? And so it was. I got down to work, established contacts with Professor Leonor and Professor Sara, and the Tapada da Ajuda Fauna Guide was born (see books).

·

Currently I continue to write more guides, but at the same time I tried to increase the prominence that animals have on social networks and I decided to embrace this project. Create a social network where I share information about some of our species. And I also share tips on how to observe them, put an end to some myths, and share some curiosities (Did you know that...). I also started sharing commemorative dates, some completely unknown to the public.

·

I hope that all the information turns out to be useful for some observers, as a reference source for those who observe an animal and cannot identify it. And later on, it may even give rise to some smaller guides about our species.

Portugal is a country rich in biodiversity. Leaving home implies observing more than 10 species in a short period of time, and even in cities we can observe different species in places surrounded by buildings, cars and noise.

Highlights of this project include:

  • Launch of the Tapada da Ajuda Fauna Guide

  • More than 3000 followers on social networks

Over the years I have published several Field Guides dedicated to wildlife.
